The Thameswey Players have been “acting” for nearly 60 years, in various guises. We started out way back in 1947 as the Post Office Sports & Social Club Drama Section & stayed affiliated to BT during the privatisation. We later changed our name to the Buzby Players, whilst still based in Guildford, & some of our past members even helped out on some of the adverts! In the 1989 we became the Thameswey Players Amateur Dramatic Society, (as the local Division for BT is situated around the Thames & Wey Rivers). This last name change coincided with our move to Aldershot, & us opening our doors to non BT employees, which is still the case today. Unfortunately after our Spring production in 2004, the Sports & Social Club Committee were informed that BT intended to sell off the building. This meant having to find a new location for the group to rehearsal & perform our productions, (which would also incur the group with extra costs as we were heavily subsidised by the Sports & Social Club). And, after viewing some locations we soon had a short list for rehearsals. We were very pleased that Normandy Village Hall was available for both our needs, (although we did have to change to Monday evenings as our main night), & we started at the Village Hall from 10th January 2005. Our first show there was “Holiday Snap” in June 2005, & we were extremely pleased how earnestly the villagers supported Drama being back in their village. Since then we have continued to put on a show each May and October time. A list of these is in the 'Past Shows' section of this site. If you are local & want a new social scene to try, or if you think you’d like to have a go at “Am Dram”, please go to our contacts page & email one of the people there & we will mail you back with any info you require. |
